Arm Balance Workshop Fundamentals of Flight RESCHEDULED: December 1st at 3:00pm at Helix Alternative Movement, Westport MA
Arm Balances are beautiful ways to test our limits and explore our edges. They challenge us mentally and physically by forcing us to slow down, find strength, courage and trust. With directed energy and good intention, you will be amazed at what your body can do.
During this all levels workshop we will build the basic framework for safe and sustainable flight, specifically working with the anatomy and alignment in the shoulder girdle, upper back and core compression. We will explore the foundational Crow Pose, and apply its mechanics to advanced arm balances, one legged arm balances, hip opening arm balances and advanced transitions. While exploring foundational elements we will focus on proper alignment and bone-stacking, training techniques and exercise drills to strengthen and open your body for the next level of practice. Each participant will receive some one-on-one coaching from Abbe to meet individual needs.
Workshop 2 Hours Class time devoted to flow: 30 minutes Class time devoted to lecture: 30 minutes Class time devoted to workshopping: 90 minutes Take home work in form of Flying Yoga handbook: 120 minutes material
SPLITS, FOLDS & HIPS Mobility Workshop with Abbé Sunday September 29th 3:00pm at Solshine Yoga New Bedford
An in-depth assessment of alignment and effort in key hip & hamstring poses. In this workshop we will learn how to truly develop a balanced practice, meaning flexibility that is backed wholly by strength and stability, in key poses such as splits, folds, visvamitra and lotus. We discuss the neuromuscular system, proprioception and "body-hacking". Excellent anatomy workshop for teachers!
If you feel inflexible in your hips and hamstrings you will learn how to efficiently encourage mobility while maintaining the integrity of muscular support for our complex joints. How can we build flexibility and mobility without jeopardizing our knees, hamstrings or sacral joint? Here we will uncover the simple tricks, mechanics and corrections to help us safely discover lengthier, more supple hips and hamstrings.
One part slow, honey flow, one part self inquiry and bio-mechanics lab. Perfect for all levels of practice! Each participant will receive some one-on-one coaching from Abbe to meet individual needs. Everyone also receives a free copy of Abbe’s E-Book "FLEX; Hips & Hamstrings" upon completion of the course. The book outlines and reviews everything we cover in the workshop.
Inverted Yoga II Workshop Handstands, Forearm Stands, Presses and Inverted Backbends November 16th 3:00pm at Helix Alternative Movement, Westport MA In Abbe’s Inverted Yoga Workshop we will shift our focus to handstands, forearm stands, and integrating backbends into these fiery poses. Handstands, forearm stands and inverted backbends require strengthening the lower half of the posterior chain while maneuvering through front-body versus back-body activation. The key to breaking down these poses lie in understanding the mechanisms behind their transitions. During this all-levels workshop we will build the basic framework for safe and sustainable inversions, backbends and transitions. We will investigate biomechanics of alignment and bone-stacking, at-home training techniques and exercise drills to strengthen and open your body for this type of inversion practice.
